چکیده

Background: The Broström procedure with suture tape augmentation has become commonplace for surgical treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability. However, there is no consensus among surgeons whether internal bracing the ATFL alone or a combined and calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) brace produces superior clinical outcomes. This retrospective study aims to investigate isolated comparable outcomes CFL brace. Methods: There were 85 patients from single tertiary medical center’s electronic record identified who underwent an reconstruction between January 2017 December 2020. Postoperative including patient satisfaction, instability, pain, need revision surgery at 1-year follow-up evaluated. Results: Forty-eight reconstruction, 37 reconstruction. choice was made 2 options based on surgeon preference. At follow-up, postoperative statistically indistinguishable groups. Conclusion: modified did not produce functional measured 1 year compared Further investigation long-term needed evaluate efficacy single-ligament Level Evidence: III, study.

An Ultrasound Classification of Anterior Talofibular Ligament (ATFL) Injury

BACKGROUND To develop a classification of ATFL injury based on the ultrasonography. METHODS The ultrasound images of 560 cases that had chronic ankle instability were studied from May 2012 to May 2015. All the patients accepted ultrasonography to type the ATFL injury. RESULTS The ATFL injuries could be divided into six subtypes based on ultrasound imaging: I: Intact ligament; II: Injury at ...

Allograft tendon reconstruction of the anterior talofibular ligament and calcaneofibular Ligament in the treatment of chronic ankle instability

BACKGROUND The purpose was retrospectively to investigate functional and clinical outcomes after anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) reconstruction using a single allograft. METHODS Patients with severe chronic lateral instability of the ankle underwent surgery after conservative treatment failed. Ultrasounds of the ankle were performed, and if the AFTL and...

Proximity of arthroscopic ankle stabilization procedures to surrounding structures: an anatomic study.

PURPOSE To examine the anatomy of the lateral ankle after arthroscopic repair of the lateral ligament complex (anterior talofibular ligament [ATFL] and calcaneofibular ligament [CFL]) with regard to structures at risk. METHODS Ten lower extremity cadaveric specimens were obtained and were screened for gross anatomic defects and pre-existing ankle laxity. The ATFL and CFL were sectioned from t...

Acute and chronic lateral ankle instability in the athlete.

Ankle sprain injuries are the most common injury sustained during sporting activities. Three-quarters of ankle injuries involve the lateral ligamentous complex, comprised of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL), and the posterior talofibular ligament (PTFL). The most common mechanism of injury in lateral ankle sprains occurs with forced plantar flexion an...

Minimally Invasive Reconstruction of Anterior Talofibular Ligament with Partial Peroneus Brevis Tendon in the Treatment of Chronic Lateral Ankle Instability

Background: Chronic lateral ankle instability causes significant problems in physical activity and accelerates development of osteoarthritic changes. Many procedures were designed to reconstruct the anterior talo-fibular ligament (ATFL) in the treatment of chronic lateral ankle instability. Although most of them were effective, but brought big trauma and sacrifice of some tendons. Objective: To...
